Mucha gente ha mostrado últimamente su sorpresa ante la aparente contradicción que supone tener una plantilla tan corta y ceder a jugadores como Hleb, Henrique o Martín Cáceres. El último capítulo de este sorprendente proceso por parte de Pep Guardiola ha sido su ‘lucha’ por colocar a Eidur Gudjohnsen, que al final ha acabado recalando en el Mónaco y que, por cierto, ha dejado libre el número de mis amores (el 7) en la primera plantilla azulgrana. Cuáles son los motivos de este aparente sinsentido? Porqué parece el técnico estar tirándose piedras sobre su propio tejado? Es realmente tan corta la plantilla?
El Barcelona cuenta actualmente con 20 jugadores del primer equipo, de los cuales dos son porteros y Milito está lesionado y no parece contar a corto plazo para el cuerpo técnico. Esto nos deja un once y siete recambios, una cifra más que suficiente para afrontar una temporada, máximo cuando hay jugadores muy polivalentes que pueden actuar en dos y hasta tres posiciones. Hay quien esgrime la posibilidad de lesiones largas como posible factor de alto riesgo, pero a mi modo de entender es igualmente catastrófico que se lesione Messi con una plantilla de 18 jugadores, que con una de 25. También está en el aire la marcha de Touré y Keita a la Copa de África, pero no olvidemos que, por suerte, se produce en un mes, el de enero, en el que aún no ha arrancado la Champions y no hay una carga tan bestia de partidos decisivos. Aún así, es evidente que se corre un riesgo de cara a una temporada tan larga y con un nivel de exigencia tan alto en todos los frentes.
En una plantilla corta, todo el mundo se siente útil
La ventaja de una plantilla corta es que todo el mundo está tensionado y sabe que va a ser importante. Bojan, que el lunes jugó un gran partido ante el Sporting, sabe que sí o sí va a tener minutos este año, Pedro dispondrá de oportunidades de sobras y no juega tan presionado por hacer muchas cosas en poco tiempo. Y Busquets, que por cierto ha empezado la temporada ciertamente mal, tiene claro que por lo menos jugará tanto como la temporada pasada. Luego está el caso de los canteranos que suben desde el B o el juvenil y que también ven en el horizonte esta posibilidad seria de afianzarse en el primer equipo.
Cuando uno mira en perspectiva una temporada, se da cuenta que jugadores como Cáceres, Hleb o Gudjohnsen acababan jugando los partidos ‘embarcadas’ (los de Copa, Copa Catalunya o los más flojos en la Liga) o bien cuando no había más remedio por lesiones. Esto, en un jugador con prestigio, suele acabar provocando una enorme desmotivación, a menos que hablemos de casos raros, como el de Sylvinho. Simplificado: Gudjohnsen sabía que estaba de relleno y cuando jugaba lo hacía bastante desganado. Por contra, cuando Pep tire de Dos Santos, Thiago Alcántara (que personalmente me parece un crack en potencia) o Jeffren, éstos jugarán muchísimo más motivados. Ciertamente, les falta la experiencia de Guddy o no son tan buenos como Hleb, pero que es mejor, un jugador bueno motivado u otro muy bueno y en plan pasota? Yo lo tengo claro y creo que Guardiola, también.

Dicho esto, un último apunte ahora que está tan de moda hablar de la cantera azulgrana en términos positivos. Que hayan salido un hornada de buenos jugadores en los últimos años es una señal que se está trabajando bien, pero seamos realistas: ni antes eran todos malos, ni ahora todos son Messis en potencia. Ciertamente han cambiado cosas en Can Barça y ahora el canterano que destaca sabe que se confía en él y que es probable que disponga de opciones, pero ya detecto en muchos medios la tendencia a alabar desmesuradamente a cualquier canterano que se viste con la camiseta del Barça. Ayer, por ejemplo, Miguel Rico afirmaba en la contra del Mundo Deportivo que Jeffren es mejor que Pedrito. Discrepo radicalmente. De hecho, después de verlo muchos partidos la temporada pasada tengo la sensación que esta pretemporada ha rendido muy por encima de sus posibilidades. Tampoco hace falta irnos muy lejos para recordar el caso de Giovanni Dos Santos, que hizo un buen Gamper y muchos ya lo señalaron como el nuevo Messi. El Barça tiene buenos canteranos y jugadores prometedores, pero tampoco generalicemos, para lo bueno y para lo malo. Pedro es Pedro y con minutos y oportunidades puede ser un jugador valioso y dar un buen rendimiento, pero el que marca diferencias es Messi, o Iniesta, o Xavi, o Henry, o Ibra.
